On 22-02-2020, Cem Senol took the hyakunin test also known as the 100-man kumite. This test was in the international budokai regulations and rules. This means old school kyokushin rules, no protection besides cup and mouth guard, in a ring and no point count so this leaves the contestant facing 100 rounds of 1.5 minutes with 2 options, giving up or persevere. No matter what happens.
A test where the main focus is not giving up, while working with the skills you have.
Emphasizing on Not giving up: this means you have to bring a contestant to physical and mental despair. Only then wil you test this component.
So the appearance and the outcome of the test was totally different from former tests that used protection, a mat or out-edited breaks looked like.
“A very hard test, physically and mentally.
I had to go deep, extremely deep for a very long time. It took me to a place of constant pain, doubt, frustration, fatigue and despair. With only 1 principle to help me : the unwillingness to give up but to persevere.
It was in these extreme circumstances that I had to accept the situation I was in and refuse myself al the easy solutions. There was only one acceptable way out of this for me and it was the hard way, endure, fight and not pass out.
My biggest help through al of this was determination to finish this no matter what the cost.”
